Dr. Dennis Kim is a board certified endocrinologist and currently the Senior Director of Medical Affairs at Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Dr. Kim completed his fellowship training in Diabetes and Endocrinology/Metabolism at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) during which time he investigated the pathophysiology of insulin resistance and dysmetabolic disease state. Clinical diabetes therapeutics and insulin signal transduction were areas of particular interest to him while at UCSD under the guidance of Dr. Robert Henry. In 2001, Dr. Kim accepted a position as Medical Investigator at Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in San Diego, California. He then became Director of Clinical Affairs in 2002 where he had been responsible for spearheading Phase 2 and 3 development of exenatide (synthetic exendin-4) as a drug candidate for type 2 diabetes. Dr. Kim transitioned in 2004 to the position of Senior Director of Medical Affairs to further develop exenatide (Byetta®) through Phase 3b/4 and to support its commercialization. Currently, Dr. Kim plays a key role as part of the senior management group in co-development and co-commercialization of exenatide in an alliance with Eli Lilly and Company. In conjunction with his research endeavors, Dr. Kim stays active in educating medical students and housestaff, as well as continuing to provide care for patients at the Diabetes Clinic at UCSD/San Diego VA Medical Center as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UCSD School of Medicine.
