About Us
WHO WE ARE
Mission Innovation.org, a project of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, is a place to discuss and learn about pharmaceutical innovation. We seek to:
- Provide space for an exchange of ideas about pharmaceutical innovation;
- Raise awareness of the critical issues facing pharmaceutical innovation;
- Communicate essential information about the nature of pharmaceutical discovery, the challenges it faces, the value it provides, and the future promise it holds.
Where We Stand America has made great strides in health care over the last century, and new medicines have been no small part of this progress. Yet major challenges remain. As the Baby Boomer generation ages, the burden of diseases like diabetes and Alzheimer's is likely to grow. Many people are concerned that health care will become more difficult to afford. Innovative medicines offer an important solution to these pressing challenges. At the same time, as researchers push into new frontiers of science, discovery of new medicines has become more expensive and challenging than ever. At this crossroads of discovery, it is essential to pursue public policies that take advantage of the benefits of new medicines rather than forestalling continued progress.
Who We Are Innovation.org is a project of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). PhRMA represents the country's leading research-based pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives. The entire industry invested an estimated $65.3 billion in 2009 in discovering and developing new medicines. PhRMA members alone spent $45.8 billion on R&D.
